Winter Ski Fitness

What you need to know

Who is this trip for? - This trip is open for anyone who has an interest to see how lighter weight ski touring equipment can be used to help you keep good fitness over the winter months when running on the trails is much more difficult in many places around the world. The trip is ideal for those who already have some ski touring experience but we can also cater for you if you have never ski toured before. When you make your booking please leave a comment on your ski experience so we have a good idea of your level. PLEASE BE HONEST! 


Weather -  We hope you can always experience Romsdal in perfect sunshine and blue skies, however, we cannot predict the weather so please be prepared for all mother nature can throw at you. Warm and sunny to Heavy snow showers, very cold, windy and challenging!


Fitness Level - This is not a training camp where we will push you to your limits, However, we do recommend you have a good level of fitness to be able to be out in the Mountains for at least 5 - 7 hours. We will have regular stops and we will not be going at a pace where anyone feels it to be a struggle. Lightweight touring equipment does make it a lot easier!


Equipment - We will email out a much more detailed equipment and clothing list once your all booked, here are a few of the essentials.


- Touring Skis + Tech Bindings. Recommended weight 1.2kg - 1.7kg per 1 ski + binding.  R

- Skis between 75mm-88mm underfoot are ideal!

- Skins(2 pairs) R

- Ski Touring Boots with a good walk mode. Recommended weight 800g - 1.3kg per boot. R

- Touring backpack with good ski carrying attachement 30L minimum.

- Avalanche Transceiver + Probe + Shovel. R

- Helmet rated for skiing.

- Goggles.

- Sunglasses.

- Crampons for use with ski boots. R

- Light weight mountaineering axe. R

Example Itinerary -


Day 1 - On the first day we will introduce all the equipment you will be using over the following days so you are familiar with how it all works. We will do a short tour in the Skorgedalen area and stopping regularly to discuss the equipment and route choices when out skiing. 800-1000m.


Day 2 - We will have a longer day out on the mountains today in the Mandalen area of Romsdal. Again we will be using all the equipment you have become familiar with and we will discuss more about how to move a little faster when you want longer days out and to travel a further distance. 1000-1500m


Day 3 - The final day will be spent in Isfjorden where we have endless possibilties to spend all day discovering many summits and ridge lines whilst skiing great snow with outstanding views all around us. 1500-2400m
